    What is Tasbih?

Tasbih (تسبيح) is the Islamic practice of glorifying Allah through repetitive phrases of remembrance called dhikr. The word comes from the Arabic root 'sabbaha' (سَبَّحَ), meaning 'to glorify' or 'to praise.' It is one of the most beloved acts of worship in Islam, mentioned over 80 times in the Quran.

Muslims traditionally use prayer beads (misbaha or tasbeeh beads) to count their dhikr. A standard tasbih has 99 beads, representing the 99 Names of Allah (Asma ul Husna). Our online tasbih counter provides the same functionality digitally, making it accessible to Muslims worldwide on any device.

The most common dhikr phrases are SubhanAllah (سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ - Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ - Praise be to Allah), and Allahu Akbar (اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ - Allah is the Greatest). These three phrases, known as the 'Tasbih after Salah,' are recited 33 times each after every obligatory prayer as per the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The practice of tasbih is deeply rooted in the Quran. Allah says: 'And glorify Him morning and evening' (Quran 33:42). The Prophet ﷺ said: 'The most beloved words to Allah are four: SubhanAllah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illallah, and Allahu Akbar' (Sahih Muslim 2137).

    Benefits of Dhikr

    • Brings peace and tranquility to the heart (Quran 13:28)
    • 1,000 good deeds for saying SubhanAllah 100 times
    • Protection from Shaytan and evil
    • Heavy on the Scale on the Day of Judgment
    • Beloved to Allah, the Most Merciful

      سُبْحَانَ ٱللَّٰهِ

    Astaghfirullah

    100 times daily (Sunnah)

O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad ﷺ and his family

The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah sends blessings upon him ten times' (Sahih Muslim 384). Sending Durood on Friday is especially emphasized (Abu Dawud 1047).

Tasbih Fatimah – The Sunnah Dhikr After Prayer

Tasbih Fatimah (تسبيح فاطمة) is a specific dhikr practice taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his beloved daughter Fatimah (RA). When Fatimah asked her father for a servant to help with household chores, the Prophet ﷺ instead taught her something better than a servant:

    1

    Say SubhanAllah (سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ) 33 times

    2

    Say Alhamdulillah (الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ) 33 times

    3

    Say Allahu Akbar (اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ) 34 times

    Total: 100 glorifications of Allah

Hadith Reference: Sahih Bukhari 3705, Sahih Muslim 2727

This Sunnah dhikr is recommended after every obligatory prayer and before sleeping. Ali (RA) reported that Fatimah never missed this practice after the Prophet ﷺ taught it to her. It is considered better than having a servant, providing spiritual strength and barakah (blessing).

Recited after Asr prayer until Maghrib. Evening adhkar mirror the morning supplications and add nighttime-specific duas for protection during sleep, forgiveness, and safety from harm.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tasbih & Dhikr

A tasbih (also called tasbeeh, misbaha, or prayer beads) is a string of beads traditionally used by Muslims to count dhikr (remembrance of Allah). The digital tasbih counter on Tasbih.world provides the same functionality without physical beads, making it accessible anywhere on your phone or computer.

The Sunnah practice is to say SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times after each obligatory prayer. You can also say SubhanAllah 100 times for 1,000 good deeds, as mentioned in authentic hadith.

Dhikr brings immense rewards: saying SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi 100 times removes sins even if they were like sea foam. Saying SubhanAllah 100 times earns 1,000 good deeds. Dhikr also brings peace to the heart (Quran 13:28) and is beloved to Allah.

Dhikr (ذكر) means 'remembrance' in Arabic. In Islam, it refers to the practice of remembering Allah through repeated phrases like SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest). It's a form of worship that can be done at any time.

While dhikr can be done anytime, the best times include: after the five daily prayers, in the morning after Fajr (morning adhkar), in the evening before Maghrib (evening adhkar), before sleeping, and during the last third of the night. The Prophet ﷺ especially emphasized morning and evening adhkar.

Tasbih Fatimah is a specific dhikr taught by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his daughter Fatimah (RA). It consists of saying SubhanAllah 33 times, Alhamdulillah 33 times, and Allahu Akbar 34 times (totaling 100). It is recommended after every obligatory prayer and before sleeping. Hadith reference: Sahih Bukhari 3705.

Traditional tasbih beads have 99 beads representing the 99 Names of Allah (Asma ul Husna). Some tasbihs have 33 beads (cycled 3 times to reach 99 or 100). The 99 Names are mentioned in a hadith: 'Allah has 99 names, whoever memorizes them will enter Paradise' (Sahih Bukhari 2736).

Yes, using a digital tasbih counter is permissible (halal) in Islam. The purpose of counting dhikr is to keep track of remembrance of Allah, and the method of counting (beads, fingers, or digital counter) is a means, not an end. Scholars agree that what matters is the sincerity of the dhikr, not the counting tool.

SubhanAllah (سُبْحَانَ اللّٰهِ) means 'Glory be to Allah' or 'Allah is free from imperfection.' It is a declaration of Allah's perfection and transcendence. The Prophet ﷺ said saying SubhanAllah 100 times earns 1,000 good deeds (Sahih Muslim 2698). It is one of the four most beloved words to Allah.

Alhamdulillah (الْحَمْدُ لِلّٰهِ) means 'All praise is due to Allah.' It is said to express gratitude in every situation – good or bad. The Prophet ﷺ said 'Alhamdulillah fills the scale of good deeds' (Sahih Muslim 223). Muslims say it after sneezing, eating, and in countless daily situations.

Allahu Akbar (اللّٰهُ أَكْبَرُ) means 'Allah is the Greatest.' It is the opening phrase of the Islamic prayer (Takbiratul Ihram), said during the call to prayer (Adhan), and used in daily dhikr. It affirms that Allah is greater than anything else in existence.

La ilaha illallah (لَا إِلٰهَ إِلَّا اللّٰهُ) means 'There is no god but Allah.' It is the first half of the Shahada (declaration of faith) and the best dhikr according to the Prophet ﷺ (Tirmidhi 3383). Whoever's last words are La ilaha illallah will enter Paradise (Abu Dawud 3116).

Several dhikr are recommended for anxiety: (1) La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah – a treasure of Paradise that removes helplessness. (2) HasbunAllahu wa ni'mal wakeel – 'Allah is sufficient for us.' (3) Istighfar (Astaghfirullah) – the Prophet ﷺ said it removes worry and provides relief from every difficulty (Abu Dawud 1518). (4) General dhikr brings tranquility: 'Verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest' (Quran 13:28).

Istighfar means seeking forgiveness from Allah by saying Astaghfirullah (أَسْتَغْفِرُ اللّٰهَ). The Prophet ﷺ sought forgiveness 70-100 times daily (Sahih Bukhari 6307). Benefits include: removal of anxiety, opening doors of provision, relief from hardship, entry into Paradise, and erasure of sins. Allah says: 'Seek forgiveness of your Lord; indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver' (Quran 71:10).

Durood Sharif (Salawat) is sending blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The most complete form is Durood Ibrahim, recited in every prayer. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah sends blessings upon him ten times' (Sahih Muslim 384). It is especially recommended on Fridays, after the Adhan, and during personal duas.

Morning Adhkar (أذكار الصباح) are specific supplications recited after Fajr prayer until sunrise. They include Ayat al-Kursi, Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, An-Nas (3 times each), and specific duas for protection, provision, and guidance. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever recites the morning adhkar, Allah will suffice him against everything that would harm him' (Abu Dawud 5074).

Evening Adhkar (أذكار المساء) are supplications recited after Asr prayer until Maghrib. They mirror the morning adhkar and include additional nighttime-specific duas for protection during sleep. The Prophet ﷺ never neglected the morning and evening adhkar and strongly encouraged Muslims to maintain this daily practice for spiritual protection.
