The Three Groups of Humanity
Surah Al-Waqiah divides all of humanity into three distinct groups on the Day of Judgment, each with a different fate.
As-Sabiqun (The Forerunners)
السابقون • Verses 10-26
The elite of the believers — those who were foremost in faith and good deeds. They are the ones brought nearest to Allah in the Gardens of Pleasure. They will be on thrones woven with gold, reclining on them facing each other, served by immortal youth with cups of pure drink that causes no headache.
🎁 Reward:
Gardens of Pleasure (Jannat an-Na'im), closest to Allah, served by immortal youth, fruits and meat of their choice, companions with beautiful eyes.
Ashab al-Yamin (People of the Right)
أصحاب اليمين • Verses 27-40
The righteous believers who receive their records in their right hands. They will be among thornless lote trees, clustered plantains, extended shade, outpoured water, and abundant fruit neither limited nor forbidden.
🎁 Reward:
Thornless lote trees, banana trees, extended shade, flowing water, abundant fruit, raised couches, and purified companions.
Ashab ash-Shimal (People of the Left)
أصحاب الشمال • Verses 41-56
The disbelievers and those who rejected faith. They will be in scorching fire and scalding water, in a shade of black smoke — neither cool nor beneficial. They had lived in affluence before and persisted in great sin.
⚠️ Punishment:
Scorching fire, scalding water, shade of black smoke, food from the tree of Zaqqum, drink of boiling water.

Benefits of Surah Al-Waqiah
1Protection from Poverty
The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Whoever recites Surah Al-Waqiah every night will never be afflicted with poverty.' This is one of the most well-known benefits and the primary reason many Muslims recite it nightly.
2The Surah of Wealth
Ibn Mas'ud (RA) was told during his illness to leave wealth for his daughters. He replied: 'I have taught each of them Surah Al-Waqiah. I heard the Prophet ﷺ say: Whoever recites Surah Al-Waqiah every night shall never be in need.'
3Reminder of the Hereafter
The surah provides a vivid, detailed account of the Day of Judgment and the three groups of people, making it a powerful reminder that this life is temporary and the Hereafter is the true destination.
4Strengthens Faith in Allah's Power
Verses 57-74 present powerful arguments for Allah's creation — from human reproduction to agriculture to water to fire — challenging the reader to acknowledge Allah as the Creator and Sustainer.
5Night Recitation Reward
Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (RA) taught his daughters Surah Al-Waqiah instead of leaving material wealth, confident that its recitation would ensure Allah's provision for them throughout their lives.
