Dua for Anxiety and Distress – Islamic Supplications

Find authentic duas for worry, grief and distress alongside practical Islamic guidance. Supplication is worship, and seeking qualified medical or mental-health support is also permitted and encouraged when needed.

    Turning to Allah in distress

Islam acknowledges hardship without asking a person to hide pain. Make dua in your own words, keep the obligatory prayers, and seek help from trustworthy people. A supplication is not a replacement for safety planning or professional care.

Repeat authentic words slowly and consider their meaning. Allah knows the distress of every servant and hears every sincere call.

    Authentic supplications

    The Prophet ﷺ taught a dua seeking refuge from worry and grief: Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazan, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasal, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal (Sahih al-Bukhari 6369).

    • La ilaha illa anta subhanaka inni kuntu minaz-zalimin (Quran 21:87)
    • HasbunAllahu wa ni'mal-Wakil (Quran 3:173)
    • Rabbishrah li sadri wa yassir li amri (Quran 20:25-26)

    When extra support is needed

Persistent anxiety, panic, depression, thoughts of self-harm or inability to function deserve prompt support from a qualified clinician and trusted person. Seeking treatment does not contradict tawakkul. If there is immediate danger, contact local emergency services now.
