Dua Before Sleep – Authentic Bedtime Adhkar
Prepare for sleep with authentic bedtime adhkar, Quran recitation and duas from the Sunnah. This guide separates established practice from unsupported claims about guaranteed results.
Preparing for sleep
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught remembrance before sleeping, including making wudu when possible, dusting the bed, sleeping on the right side and reciting the established supplications.
Bedtime worship is a moment of humility. Ask Allah for forgiveness, place your trust in Him and avoid turning a personal routine into a source of anxiety.
Authentic bedtime recitations
Among the established practices are reciting Ayat al-Kursi and the last three surahs of the Quran. Cup the hands, recite Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas, lightly blow and wipe over the body three times (Sahih al-Bukhari 5017).
- Say SubhanAllah 33, Alhamdulillah 33 and Allahu Akbar 34 (Sahih al-Bukhari 6318)
- Recite the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqarah (Sahih al-Bukhari 5009)
- Say Bismika Allahumma amutu wa ahya (Sahih al-Bukhari 6324)
Waking during the night
If you wake during the night, praise Allah and make the supplication reported for that situation. Make dua and pray if you are able; worship should be gentle and sustainable.
