🤝 Abu Bakr As-Siddiq (RA)📖 Various Hadith in Bukhari, Muslim, and Sirah literature

Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, holds the unique distinction of being the Prophet's closest companion and the first adult male to accept Islam. His story is one of unwavering faith, extraordinary sacrifice, and complete devotion.

When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ first received revelation and confided in Abu Bakr, there was no hesitation. Abu Bakr believed immediately. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I never invited anyone to Islam except that he showed some hesitation, except Abu Bakr. When I presented Islam to him, he did not hesitate at all."

This earned him the title "As-Siddiq" - the truthful, the confirmer of truth. This title was solidified after the Isra and Miraj when others doubted, but Abu Bakr (RA) immediately confirmed: "If he said it, then it is true."

Abu Bakr (RA) was a wealthy merchant, yet he spent his fortune freeing enslaved Muslims who were being persecuted. He purchased and freed Bilal ibn Rabah (RA), who was being tortured by his master for his faith, placing hot stones on his chest in the scorching desert sun. He freed Amir ibn Fuhayra (RA), Umm Ubays (RA), Zinnira (RA), Nahdiya (RA), and many others.

When asked about his spending, Abu Bakr would say, "I am only purchasing them for Allah."

During the preparation for the Battle of Tabuk, when the Muslims needed resources, the Prophet ﷺ asked the companions to contribute. Umar brought half of all he owned, thinking he would finally outdo Abu Bakr. But when asked what he had left for his family, Umar replied, "Half of my wealth."

Then Abu Bakr came with his contribution. When asked what he had left for his family, he replied, "I have left them Allah and His Messenger." He had given everything - 100% of his wealth.

The Prophet ﷺ said, "Abu Bakr has favored me greatly with his wealth and his companionship. If I were to take a khalil (intimate friend) other than Allah, I would take Abu Bakr. But the brotherhood of Islam is sufficient."

During the Hijra (migration) to Madinah, Abu Bakr had the honor of accompanying the Prophet ﷺ. When they hid in the Cave of Thawr with the enemies searching for them, Abu Bakr wept - not out of fear for himself, but fear for the Prophet's safety. He said, "O Messenger of Allah, if any of them were to look at his feet, he would see us!"

The Prophet ﷺ responded with words that echo through history: "What do you think of two when Allah is their third?" (Quran 9:40)

At the cave entrance, a spider spun its web and a bird built its nest - signs to the pursuers that no one had entered. Abu Bakr was bitten by a snake in the cave but did not move or cry out, fearing he would wake the sleeping Prophet. His tears falling on the Prophet's face woke him, and he applied his blessed saliva to heal the wound.

After the Prophet's death, when the community was in shock and even Umar couldn't accept the news, it was Abu Bakr who addressed the people: "Whoever worshipped Muhammad, let him know that Muhammad has died. But whoever worships Allah, let him know that Allah is ever-living and never dies." He then recited: "Muhammad is not but a messenger. Messengers have passed before him. So if he were to die or be killed, would you turn back on your heels?" (Quran 3:144)

As the first Caliph, Abu Bakr led with justice and wisdom for just over two years until his own death, leaving behind a legacy of faith, sacrifice, and devotion that Muslims aspire to throughout the ages.
