Story of the Prophets

    Prophet Ibrahim and the Fire

    قصة إبراهيم والنار

When Prophet Ibrahim destroyed the idols, his people threw him into a massive fire. But Allah commanded the fire to be cool and safe, and Ibrahim emerged unharmed.

    🌟 Prophet Ibrahim (AS)📖 Quran 21:68-70, 37:97-98

Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), peace be upon him, was born into a society deeply entrenched in idol worship. His father, Azar, was a sculptor who carved idols for the people to worship. From a young age, Ibrahim questioned this practice, wondering how objects made by human hands could possibly be worthy of worship.

Through deep reflection on the creation around him - the stars, moon, and sun - Ibrahim came to recognize that only the Creator of all things deserved worship. This realization set him on a path that would make him one of the greatest prophets in Islamic history.

One day, when the townspeople left for a festival, Ibrahim seized the opportunity to confront their false beliefs. He entered the temple where the idols were kept and destroyed them all with an axe, leaving only the largest idol standing. He hung the axe around its neck.

When the people returned and found their gods shattered, they were furious. "Who has done this to our gods?" they demanded. Ibrahim boldly responded, "Ask the largest idol. Perhaps he did it - if they can speak!"

This response exposed the absurdity of their worship. The idols could not speak, move, or defend themselves. How then could they be gods? But instead of accepting the truth, the people's anger only grew. Their leaders, including the tyrant king Nimrod, decided that Ibrahim must be punished.

They built an enormous fire - so large that the flames could be seen from miles away. The heat was so intense that birds flying overhead would fall dead. They constructed a catapult to throw Ibrahim into the blaze, as no one could get close enough to push him in.

As Ibrahim was being placed in the catapult, the angel Jibreel (Gabriel) came to him and asked, "Do you need anything?" Ibrahim replied, "From you, no. But from Allah, yes." This response showed his complete trust in Allah alone.

When Ibrahim was hurled into the flames, Allah commanded: "O fire, be coolness and safety for Ibrahim!" (Quran 21:69)

The fire obeyed its Lord. Though the flames continued to burn, they did not harm Ibrahim in any way. He sat in the midst of the inferno in complete peace, as if in a garden. The ropes that bound him burned away, but his skin and clothes remained untouched.

The people watched in amazement. Days passed, and when the fire finally died down, Ibrahim walked out completely unharmed. This miracle proved beyond doubt that the One True God had protected His servant.

This event became a turning point. While some still refused to believe, others recognized the truth of Ibrahim's message. Ibrahim would go on to become the father of prophets, with Prophet Ismail and Prophet Ishaq as his sons, and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) among his descendants.
