    Prophet Yusuf and the Dream

    قصة يوسف والرؤيا

The complete story of Prophet Yusuf - from his prophetic dream as a child, through betrayal by his brothers, slavery, imprisonment, to becoming the minister of Egypt.

🌟 Prophet Yusuf (AS)📖 Quran, Surah Yusuf (Chapter 12)

The story of Prophet Yusuf (Joseph), peace be upon him, is called "Ahsan al-Qasas" - the best of stories - by Allah in the Quran. It begins with a young boy sharing a remarkable dream with his father.

Young Yusuf approached his father, Prophet Ya'qub (Jacob), with excitement in his eyes. "O my father! I saw eleven stars and the sun and the moon - I saw them prostrating to me!" (Quran 12:4)

Ya'qub, himself a prophet, immediately recognized this was no ordinary dream. It was a prophecy of Yusuf's future greatness. But he also knew the danger of jealousy. "O my son, do not relate your vision to your brothers, lest they arrange a plan against you. Indeed, Shaytan is to man a clear enemy." (Quran 12:5)

Unfortunately, Yusuf's brothers already harbored resentment. They felt their father favored Yusuf and his younger brother Binyamin. "Yusuf and his brother are more beloved to our father than we are, while we are a strong group. Indeed, our father is in clear error," they complained.

They devised a cruel plan. They convinced their father to let Yusuf join them on an outing, promising to protect him. Once away from home, they stripped him of his special shirt and threw him into a deep well. They returned home with his shirt stained with false blood, claiming a wolf had devoured him.

Ya'qub, devastated but wise, said: "Rather, your souls have enticed you to something. So patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help against what you describe." (Quran 12:18)

A passing caravan discovered Yusuf in the well. They pulled him out and sold him as a slave in Egypt, where he was purchased by the Aziz (minister) of Egypt. The Aziz's wife was struck by Yusuf's exceptional beauty as he grew into a young man.

She attempted to seduce him, but Yusuf, remembering Allah, refused. "He said, 'I seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is my master, who has made good my residence. Indeed, wrongdoers will not succeed.'" (Quran 12:23)

When she persisted and he fled, she falsely accused him of improper behavior. Despite his innocence being proven through miraculous evidence, Yusuf was imprisoned to protect the Aziz's family reputation.

In prison, Yusuf's gift of interpreting dreams became known. When the king of Egypt had troubling dreams that none could interpret, Yusuf was summoned. He explained that seven years of abundance would be followed by seven years of severe famine, and advised the king on how to prepare.

Impressed by his wisdom, the king freed Yusuf and appointed him as minister in charge of Egypt's resources. Yusuf's careful planning saved Egypt and the surrounding regions from starvation.

During the famine, his brothers came to Egypt seeking food, not recognizing the powerful minister as the brother they had abandoned years ago. After testing their character and finding they had changed, Yusuf revealed his identity: "I am Yusuf, and this is my brother. Allah has certainly been gracious to us. Indeed, whoever fears Allah and is patient - then indeed, Allah does not allow to be lost the reward of those who do good." (Quran 12:90)

He forgave his brothers completely, saying, "No blame will there be upon you today. May Allah forgive you." Then he invited his entire family to Egypt, including his elderly father Ya'qub.

When they arrived, Yusuf's childhood dream was fulfilled. His parents and eleven brothers bowed before him in respect - the eleven stars, sun, and moon of his vision. "O my father, this is the interpretation of my dream from before. My Lord has made it reality." (Quran 12:100)
